Rally Against Fear- Memphis-James Meredith 50th Anniversary of Meredith "March Against Fear"
6/11/16 Memphis, TN. Civil Rights icon James Meredith, 83 years old and wearing a white shirt, pants and hat, takes part in a "Rally Against Fear". Meredith is accompanied on the walk by his grandson James Meredith Knight, aka "little James" in red shirt on Meredith's left as the walk from the Peabody Hotel to the National Civil Rights Museum, where Dr. Martin Luther King was killed, as part of a celebration commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Meredith's " March Against Fear. Meredith set out from Memphis TN on June 6 ,1966, to raise awareness for Equal Rights and to get the African American community to register to vote. Meredith was shot on the second day of his walk June 7, 1966 in Hernando Mississippi. Martin Luther King, Stokely Carmichael and other notable civil rights leaders of the time joined together to finish Meredith's walk. Photo ©Suzi Altman
